The popular Chechen fighter Khamzat Chimaev, who recently announced that he would return to the octagon after Ramadan, will hold his next fight in the UFC middleweight division.
Borz coach and manager Andreas Michael made the announcement in an interview with Submission Radio.
“It will be an average weight,” said the Swedish specialist. “He will fight at middleweight unless we get offered a welterweight title shot. Miracles happen and if we get a chance to fight for the title we can move down to welterweight, don’t worry.”
In the middleweight division, Chimaev is counting on at least a challenger’s fight.
“At middleweight he will be even stronger, and we are ready to fight the best fighters in the division right away. We need a Candidates or Title fight, preferably the second option, and I think he deserved it.”
28-year-old Khamzat Chimaev, who is ranked third in the UFC welterweight rankings, won his sixth consecutive victory under the banner of the strongest league in the world in September last year, finishing with Kevin Holland’s choke in the first round.
Earlier, Chimaev said that he would not mind meeting former UFC middleweight champion, Robert Whittaker, in the next fight.
