Khamzat Chimaev renounced his Swedish citizenship

Popular Chechen fighter Khamzat Chimaev has renounced his Swedish citizenship and will fight in the UFC under the flag of the United Arab Emirates.

This was announced by the manager of “Borz” Mahdi Shammas.

“He has emigrated and is no longer a Swedish citizen,” Shammas was quoted by NewsAgency as saying.

Earlier this year, Chimaev criticized Swedish authorities for officially allowing far-right politician Rasmus Paludan to stage a public Quran burning, calling the Dane a terrorist.

The Chechen native has reportedly already obtained UAE citizenship.

Khamzat Chimaev, 29, knows no defeats, is riding a six-fight win streak in the UFC, and is currently preparing for his bout with Brazilian Paulo Costa, which takes place on October 21 at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi.
