Popular Chechen fighter Khamzat Chimaev suggests that former UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker will be his next opponent.
“I think I will fight with Robert Whittaker,” said Borz in an interview with the channel Red Corner MMA. “He has no opponent. Paulo Costa ran away somewhere. I will most likely fight Robert Whittaker. I want to fight him. And as a person, I like him – a good guy. He doesn’t talk anywhere, he doesn’t allow himself too much. Purely from the bottom of my heart, I’ll sit at the press conference and fight.”
In a recent interview, Chimaev announced that he refused to fight Robert Whittaker in Australia, asking to organize this fight in Las Vegas.
Three weeks earlier, the Aussie had said he had not been offered an opponent other than Paulo Costa, who pulled out of the fight. At the same time, Whittaker expressed confidence that the organization was preparing a fight for him in March or April.
Robert Whittaker, 32, got his career back on track last September with a unanimous decision win over Marvin Vettori. Seven months earlier, the Australian made an unsuccessful attempt to take away the title from Israel Adesanya, who lost a unanimous decision after five rounds.
28-year-old Khamzat Chimaev won his sixth consecutive victory under the UFC banner in September, finishing in the first round with a choke Kevin Holland.
