Popular Chechen fighter Khamzat Chimaev, who made his UFC debut as a Swedish fighter and has recently represented the United Arab Emirates in the octagon, has made it clear that he considers neither of those countries his home.
“Visiting is good, but home is always better! Akhmat MMA,” Borz wrote on social media, posting several training photos from the gym of the Akhmat club in Grozny.
Khamzat Chimaev arrived in the Chechen Republic immediately after his fight with Kamaru Usman, whom he beat by majority decision at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi three weeks ago, injuring ligaments in his hand in the process.
Although the Chechen, ranked eighth in the UFC’s middleweight division rankings, has been named the next challenger for the championship belt, the league officially announced a title fight between Sean Strickland and Dricus Du Plessis a few days ago to headline UFC 297 in Toronto on Jan. 20. It can be assumed that “Borz” will face the winner of this confrontation once he heals his injured hand.
Recall that undefeated 29-year-old Khamzat Chimaev has seven victories under the UFC banner, five of which came early.
