Khamzat Chimaev breaks down the fight between Strickland and Du Plessis

No. 9 ranked UFC middleweight Khamzat Chimaev shared his opinion on the title fight between Sean Strickland and Dricus Du Plessis, in which the South African won by split decision and stripped the American of his championship belt.

“This is what I expected the fight to be,” “Borz” said in an interview with Brett Okamoto. “It wasn’t anything special. I think it was 50-50 and the win could have gone either way. Maybe the decision is right, maybe it’s not. I don’t know.”

“As far as I’m concerned, Strickland won that fight, but it was a close fight for both of them. But it wasn’t anything special. Nothing about this fight made me think, ‘This guy’s different, he’s different.’ I saw a lot of moments where I could have finished them both.”

“It was a good fight, but at the same time, nothing special. Just like tough sparring. A few kickdowns, and then standup again. Nobody was trying to finish the fight early, so there was nothing special about it.”

The undefeated Chechen fighter also said he’s ready to face the current champion at UFC 300, or go up against one of the division’s top fighters, but for a double payday.
