Khabib made a statement after Makhachev’s win over Volkanovski

Hall of Fame member and former UFC lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov, congratulated Islam Makhachev on his successful title defense against Alexander Volkanovski, and explained why he didn’t second his friend in such an important confrontation.

“Best fighter in the world at the moment,” Nurmagomedov wrote on social media. “Love you bro – accept my congratulations!”

“If you ask me where I was, why I wasn’t in the corner – I already answered this question. I don’t go to fights, I’m not in the corner, and I’ve completely left everything related to MMA. Please accept my decision just as my brothers, friends, and sparring partners have. What our team has accomplished will forever be in the history of this sport”

The lightweight title superfight, which headlined the UFC 294 event in Abu Dhabi, ended in the first round after the Russian shocked the Australian with a leg kick to the head and then finished his shocked opponent in the parterre.
