Kevin Lee: The UFC notified me of my termination by email. They didn’t even call.”

Former UFC interim lightweight contender Kevin Lee has revealed how he learned he was fired from the promotion.

“I found out about this yesterday morning,” Lee said on The MMA Hour. – They sent me an email. And this is the worst part of this whole story. They didn’t even call me, there was no warning. Tracy sent me a letter. This is the guy who sends out contracts for fights. Not even Sean Shelby or Hunter Campbell or Dana. This is what pissed me off the most. Contempt.

My reaction to the letter? Shock first. Then anger, humiliation. I started calling managers, agents, a bunch of people to figure out what was going on. In the end, I punched Hunter’s phone (UFC vice president. – Note. “SE”), dialed him. He started giving me some bullshit. “You will be a champion in another organization, you will earn more money outside the UFC than with us …” and so on. I knew all this very well. That I’ll make more money as a free agent than in the UFC.”

Lee spent seven years in the UFC, gaining 11 victories and seven losses during this time. By October 2017, the 24-year-old American had a record of 9-2 in the promotion, but then he lost five out of seven fights. Lee last fought in August of this year, losing by unanimous decision to Daniel Rodriguez. On December 1, the fighter was fired from the UFC.
