Kelvin Gastelum issued a statement after the defeat

Former challenger for the UFC interim middleweight championship belt, Kelvin Gastelum, who made a failed attempt to return to the welterweight division this past weekend, released a statement thanking fans for their support and also paid tribute to his opponent, Shawn Brady.

“I am 100 times better than what I showed on this night,” the American wrote on social media. “I’ll make it up to you and be back as soon as possible! Love to everyone who is supporting me on this journey. Be blessed!”

“You did your job well, Sean Brady! Congratulations. You got a well-deserved victory, and I wish you all the best in the future!”

As a reminder, the welterweight bout between Kelvin Gastelum and Sean Brady, which took place Dec. 2 at UFC on ESPN 52 in Austin, ended at the 1:43 mark of the third round with Brady winning by kimura.
