Justin Gaethje will defend the BMF title at UFC 300

Former UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway will move up to the lightweight division for the second time and attempt to take the BMF title away from Justin Gaethje.

The fight will be part of the UFC 300 anniversary tournament, which will take place on April 13 in Las Vegas, as officially announced by the head of the world’s strongest league, Dana White. The fight was officially announced three months after Holloway announced his desire to move up to lightweight for a bout with Gaethje.

Justin Gaethje, 35, is riding a two-fight win streak, having won by majority decision over Rafael Fiziev and knocking out Dustin Porier in a contender’s bout. The win over “Diamond” earned “Highlight” the so-called BMF title vacated by Jorge Masvidal.

Max Holloway, 32, also won two fights in a row, defeating Arnold Allen by unanimous decision and knocking out Korean Zombie. In 2019, “Blessed” made an unsuccessful attempt to win the interim UFC lightweight championship belt, losing by unanimous decision to Dustin Puryear after five rounds.

Justin Gaethje is currently ranked number two in the UFC’s lightweight rankings, while Max Holloway is the organization’s number one ranked welterweight division.
