Justin Gaethje responded to Max Holloway’s challenge

UFC lightweight division number two and BMF titleholder Justin Gaethje is not enthusiastic about the prospect of a fight with former UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway, who challenged him a day earlier.

“I wouldn’t want to fight Holloway,” MMAJunkie quoted Gaethje as saying. “I just don’t want to beat him. There’s no need for that. I like him too much – he’s a good dude. I don’t know him personally, but I’m a fan. I’d rather not hit him. Would only do it if I had to.”

In a recent interview, the American fighter stated that he is prepared for a long wait if the next opponent of the division’s reigning champion, Islam Makhachev, is not him, but Brazilian Charles Oliveira.

Justin Gaethje, 34, is riding a two-fight win streak, having won by majority decision over Rafael Fiziev and knocking out Dustin Porier in a contender’s bout.

Max Holloway, 31, has also won two fights in a row, defeating Arnold Allen by unanimous decision and knocking out Korean Zombie.
