Junior dos Santos and Fabricio Werdum to fight bare-knuckle rematch

15 years after the first fight, former UFC heavyweight champions Junior dos Santos and Fabricio Werdum will have a bare-knuckle rematch.

The fight will take place on September 2 under the banner of the Gamebred bareknuckle MMA organization founded by Jorge Masvidal.

The first fight of the Brazilian heavyweights took place in October 2008 at the UFC 90 tournament in Rosemont and ended in the 81st second with the victory of “Gypsy” by technical knockout. After that, both managed to become UFC heavyweight champions, but at the moment neither of them is a fighter of the strongest league in the world.

Junior dos Santos, 39, is on a five-fight losing streak, most recently under the Eagle FC banner in May last year, losing to Yorgan De Castro via TKO in the third round due to a shoulder injury.

Fabricio Werdum, 45, last went into the cage in May 2021 at PFL 3 in Atlantic City when his fight against Henan Ferreira was ruled a no contest.
