Jorge Masvidal: 'Colby Covington is the only champion in police calls'

Despite Dan White’s categorical statement that Colby Covington will fight Leon Edwards next, Jorge Masvidal is confident he can beat his former best friend in the title race if he wins a convincing victory over Gilbert Burns next.

“I like Dana, but he talks a lot,” Masvidal said on The MMA Hour. “History says one thing – whoever creates the most buzz with their fights, who sells the most pay-per-view, and who the fans want to see gets the title shot. As far as I know, champions challenge, and Colby is a champion only on police calls.

“So I’m just going to be myself and do my thing. I’ll go out and break Gilbert’s fucking face and then Leon will call my name and we’ll fight him for the belt, that’s all. And Colby will sit on the bench until I call him to fight again.”

Recall that the fight between Jorge Masvidal and Gilbert Burns will be the second most important event of the UFC 287 tournament, which will be held April 8 in Miami.
