Jon Jones spoke out about participating in the UFC 300 tournament

Reigning UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones, who is recovering from two surgeries, commented on rumors that he could return to the octagon in less than three months and headline the UFC 300 tournament.

“I did get a call offering to fight at the event,” the American wrote on social media. “They said they just wanted to give me an opportunity. We all knew I wouldn’t be ready. My relationship with the UFC is better than ever.”

That said, Jones, who underwent surgery on a torn pectoral muscle and elbow, has made it clear that his recovery is showing promise.

“The progress in rehab is amazing. I have great mobility, but I can’t work at full strength yet. Honestly, my elbow hurts the most because there are a lot of nerves there. But I’m recovering very quickly.”

According to the UFC’s plan, after his recovery, Jon Jones will make a title defense against Stipe Miocic, who was scheduled to fight last November.

As a reminder, the anniversary event will take place on April 13 in Las Vegas, and remains without a main event for now.
