Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones has explained why he wants to reclaim his second victory over Daniel Cormier after failing drug testing.
“The US Anti-Doping Agency changed some of the rules regarding picograms and tolerances, and I found out that everything that was found on me was within the acceptable limits, which means that I would pass every test I had, and that means a lot. for me,” Jones told reporters in Las Vegas. “If these rules were in effect then, it wouldn’t even get into the media. My victory over Daniel Cormier would not have been cancelled. It would have been a knockout, a clean win.”
“I hope that with these changes in the rules we can change the result and return the victory. I have no animosity towards USADA. I was the first, one of the biggest names to go through this, and I’m happy about it because some of the younger fighters might not have survived it. They would simply be fired because they couldn’t afford lawyers. So I took the bullet for this sport and I’m glad that in the future fighters will be able to avoid what I went through. It was just hell when I was considered a steroid fraud and I’m glad people now understand that I never was. I feel free”
In the past, the American failed drug tests three times – once for estrogen blockers, and twice for turinabol, serving a one-year and fifteen-month suspension. The last failed test for turinabol did not result in a suspension, as it was concluded that it was a trace of an old drug.
Recall that already this weekend at UFC 285 in Las Vegas, Jon Jones will resume his career after a three-year break and, in a confrontation with Cyril Gan, will try to win the vacant UFC heavyweight championship belt vacated by Francis Ngannou.
