Reigning UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones, who pulled out of his fight against Stipe Miocic due to a torn pectoral muscle, underwent successful surgery, as he announced to his fans on social media.
“Mission accomplished. Now I’m on the road to recovery. Let’s do it!”, the American said in the published video.
Three days earlier, the head of the UFC, Dana White, officially announced the cancellation of the fight between Jones and Miocic, and the organization of a fight for the interim UFC heavyweight championship belt between Sergey Pavlovic and Tom Aspinall, who will play the title on November 11 at UFC 295 in New York.
That said, Miocic said he has not been offered to fight for the interim title, and White promised to make the scrapped bout happen once Jones recovers from surgery. The reigning UFC champion will reportedly be able to return to the octagon in eight months at the earliest.
Recall that in March of this year, 36-year-old Jon Jones successfully resumed his professional career after a three-year hiatus, finishing Cyril Gagne with a guillotine choke in the first round and winning the vacant UFC heavyweight championship belt.
