A light heavyweight showdown is heading to the UFC’s September pay-per-view event.
On Thursday, Johnny Walker posted a video to his YouTube channel announcing that he’s fight Ion Cutelaba at UFC 279. MMA Fighting confirmed the matchup via a source with knowledge about the plans.
The event takes place Sept. 10 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and will be headlined by a welterweight non-title fight between Khamzt Chimaev and Nate Diaz.
After suffering defeats in four consecutive bouts and two of five recent ones, Walker will be looking to bounce back. After a 3-0 beginning to his octagon career — all first round knockouts — Walker suffered losses to Corey Anderson and Nikita Kralov. Jamahal Hill was also defeated. Ryan Spann won the decision.
Cutelaba also hopes to be back in the win column following a loss to Spann in May’s UFC Vegas 54. Prior to that, “The Hulk” defeated Devin Clark, and fought Dustin Jacoby to a split draw.
