John McCarthy predicts Jon Jones vs Stipe Miocic fight

Former UFC heavyweight title holder Stipe Miocic, who will share the Octagon with Jon Jones in his next bout, is inferior to the reigning division champion in every aspect except age, says legendary referee, commentator and analyst John McCarthy.

“I’ve always liked Stipe, he’s a great guy, but this isn’t the best match for him,” Big John said in a recent episode of his podcast. “If he was younger it would help, but he is 40 years old. In every aspect of this fight, he is inferior to Jones, except for age. It’s not good for him.”

“Stipe was a damn good champion, he fought Cormier three times, he won the trilogy, but Cormier beat him once. Stylistically, Jones is the worst possible opponent for Stipe. You can never write off fighters like Stipe, but styles make fights, and even though he knows how to fight, Jones will be able to take him to the ground and put him on his back, and this is not the best position for Stipe.

The heavyweight title fight between Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic will headline UFC 295 on November 11 in New York City.
