A 10-round heavyweight fight broke out between Nigerian Efe Ajagba (16-1, 13 KOs) and Colombian Oscar Rivas (28-1, 19 KOs). The promoter of the latter Yvon Michel announced in
Twitterthat Rivas suffered an eye injury during sparring. On the advice of his doctor, the Colombian refused to fight – the main event of the show.

Michel did not elaborate on what was wrong with Rivas’ eye.

The fight was scheduled for January 14 at the casino ring Turning Stone Resort in Verona, New York, USA.

It is not yet clear whether Ajagba will fight another opponent this evening or whether the Top Rank promoter will even compose a new main event.

It is also unknown what will happen to the warm-up – a 10-round fight between the Italian Guido Vianello (10-0-1, 9 KOs) and Stephen Shaw (18-0, 13 KOs) from the USA.

Rivas to relinquish bridgeweight title? Knows the insider

Ajagba lost on points to fellow prospect Frank Sanchez a couple of years ago, and closed the losses this spring when he slammed a Journeyman in two rounds.

Rivas, who holds the obscure WBC bridgeweight title, was scheduled to fight after a nearly 15-month hiatus.
