Jan Blachowicz challenges top UFC heavyweight

After a failed attempt to win the vacant UFC bantamweight title, and a loss in a potential challenger bout, former UFC champion Jan Blachowicz wants to try his hand at the heavyweight division.

The Polish fighter revealed this in an interview with Sportsnaut when asked about changing weight classes.

“Sure, why not? It sounds good,” Blachowicz stated. “We’re just thinking about it at the moment, and we’re going to ask the UFC for a heavyweight bout.”

Moreover, Blachowicz already knows who he would like to see as his first opponent in the heavyweight division.

“Now I need to study the fights of heavyweights carefully, because before I just watched them without analyzing them. I can say that Tom Aspinall did a great job in his last fight. He would be a great opponent for me for my first heavyweight fight”

Last December, Jan Blachowicz drew a fight for the vacant UFC light heavyweight championship belt against Magomed Ankalaev, and late last month the Pole lost by split decision to Alex Pereira in a fight that was a contender’s bout for the Brazilian.

Britain’s Tom Aspinall, the UFC’s fourth-ranked heavyweight, made a successful return to the octagon a month ago after a year-long layoff due to a knee injury, finishing Pole Marcin Tybura by technical knockout as early as the 73rd second of the fight.
