Jan Blachowicz and Aleksandar Rakic rematch in the works for January

A bantamweight fight between Jan Blachowicz and Aleksandar Rakic could be part of the UFC 297 event on Jan. 20 in Toronto, Canada.

The development of the bout was reported by prominent sports columnist Ariel Helwani.

If the bantamweight fight takes place, it will be a rematch. Last May, Rakic was unable to continue his fight with Blachowicz, suffering a knee injury in the third round, and has not returned to the octagon since. Prior to that, the Austrian fighter had two straight wins, winning unanimous decisions over Anthony Smith and Tiago Santos.

The Polish fighter had two more fights, drawing a fight for the vacant championship belt with Magomed Ankalaev and losing by split decision to Alex Pereira in a challenger’s match.

Jan Blachowicz and Aleksandar Rakic are currently ranked fourth and fifth in the UFC’s flyweight division rankings, respectively.
