“It was real hell!” Edgard Zapashny – about the fight between Emelianenko and Maldonado

Edgard Zapashny told the details of the fight between Fedor Emelianenko and Fabio Maldonado

“Sport-Express” traditionally determined the “Reader of the Year”. They became Edgard Zapashny, a famous trainer, a big fan of boxing and MMA, a friend of Fedor Emelianenko.

In an interview with SE, Zapashny revealed the curious details of the battle between the Last Emperor and the Brazilian Fabio Maldonado.

You have watched a lot of fights. The best fight in MMA?

– I really liked Fedor’s fight against the guy who slashed him great. About five years ago, there was still a controversial decision. They fought in Fight Night. Brazilian, what’s his… Maldonado! Tough fight, Fedor survived.

Did he lose this fight?

I couldn’t review it. Then I was next to the ring, I remember my feelings – and I don’t want to repeat them. I generally don’t watch Fedor’s lost fights.

– So who won something?

– We must count the blows!

– You’re back.

– Yes, seriously, I’m telling you – in controversial moments, they count the exact number of hits. Athletes on emotions immediately after the fight cry: “I won, I took the initiative!” And then they themselves count the blows – and calm down. The statistics are everything. I can’t say anything about that fight. Controversial result? Probably. But Fedor did not fall. The fight was not stopped. The ending was his. The middle needs discussion.

For us, the audience, it was hell. And for you?

Same thing – real hell! Another friend is beating!

Did you ask questions after?

– He asked: “Fyodor, why did you cut yourself to the end? Maldonado is a former boxer. I would have translated him and strangled him … ”Do you know what he answered?

– Very interesting.

– “I have already gone on the principle – as much as I missed in the standing position, I will win back as much. I wanted to prove to myself that I could handle him in the standing position. Here is such an internal “snack”. It’s not for me to give advice to Emelianenko, but I’m sure that Maldonado should have been shifted. And do whatever you want with it. He’s not a fighter!
