It became known about Volkanovski’s well-being after the knockout from Topuria

Former UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski had a much easier time getting knocked out in his fight against Elijah Topuria than he did in his similar loss to Islam Makhachev.

In an interview with Combat TV, the Australian’s trainer, Eugene Bairman, confirmed that he is not going to rest for too long and expects to get an immediate rematch.

“In terms of symptoms, he has no symptoms, unlike the knockout loss to Makhachev,” the specialist told Combat TV. “When it comes to a knockout, there are so many variables, including the number of symptoms you feel. I don’t know the scientific definitions, but it looks like the last concussion didn’t affect him as much as the previous one.”

“He definitely needs to take a break, give his head a rest, but at the same time he needs to be reasonable and he’s very interested in getting a rematch this year. He’s been a champion for many years, defended his title many times, fought through injuries and for the sake of the company took a brie on short notice. He certainly deserves to get an immediate rematch.”

Last October, Alexander Volkanovski made a foray into the lightweight division on short notice, losing by knockout to Islam Makhachev in the first round, and ten days ago, Elijah Topuria straightened out the Australian in the second five-rounder, taking the UFC featherweight championship belt away from him.
