Israel Adesanya thanks Drikus Du Plessis

A week after the offensive remarks against Drikus Du Plessis, reigning UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya publicly thanked the South African for defeating Robert Whittaker, thus sparing him a third fight with the Australian.

“I wasn’t surprised at all,” the Nigerian said in yet another video posted on his YouTube channel. “He’s a cunning little prankster, that’s who he is, but yes – for me his victory was not a surprise”

“I want to thank Drikus for really working hard and doing everything it takes to win. Few people bet on his victory, but I believed that he would win, and I had good reasons for that.

On July 8 at UFC 290 in Las Vegas, Dricus Du Plessis scored a largely unexpected victory, finishing Robert Whittaker by TKO in the second round, and became the main contender for the fight against Israel Adesanya, who plans to defend his title on September 9 at UFC 293 in Sydney.

At the moment, the title fight between Adesanya and Du Plessis at the event in Australia has not been officially announced.
