Reigning UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya has shared his thoughts on the upcoming challenger bout between Robert Whittaker and Drykus Du Plessis, which will take place on July 8 at UFC 290 in Las Vegas.
“Probably Rob can finish him off,” the Nigerian was quoted by MMA Fighting as saying. “I would say that Rob will finish him in the second round, or will beat him all three rounds. Rob will be faster, more accurate, and Drykus’ only chance is to make this fight messy. But Rob can also fight dirty, so we’ll see. I give 70 percent for Whittaker to win, but I really want Drykus to win.”
Adesanya says he sees no problem facing the winner on September 10 at UFC 293 in Sydney, even if it’s Whittaker who gets home arena advantage.
“No, it doesn’t bother me. It’s a different story. I love Sydney and I’m sure it will be a good day.”
