Israel Adesanya has endorsed Jon Jones

Former UFC middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya, believes current UFC heavyweight titleholder Jon Jones, who tore a pectoral muscle, can return to the octagon and continue his professional career.

“It sucks,” MMAnews quoted the Nigerian as saying. “I saw Tyson Pedro tear a knee ligament, had surgery, recovered, and almost immediately tore a ligament in his other knee. It takes a certain fortitude to see your friends hold training camps and fight. You want to join them, but you can’t, so all you can do is watch and stay hopeful, keep the fire burning inside you.”

“John’s a goddamn gangster, he’s a beast in this game. He was away for three years, came back and made it look easy, so I’m sure – he’ll handle everything this time too. He’ll be fine.”

Jon Jones was scheduled to make his title defense against Stipe Miocic on Nov. 11 at UFC 295 in New York, but the American was injured and withdrew from the fight two weeks before the event, and league officials decided to play out the interim championship belt between Sergey Pavlovic and Tom Aspinall. According to the UFC plan, after Jon Jones recovers, he will defend his belt against Stipe Miocic, and the winner of this confrontation will meet with the interim champion of the division.

As for Israel Adesanya, he lost his championship belt in September, sensationally losing by unanimous decision to Sean Strickland, after which he announced that he was putting his professional career on pause until 2027.
