Islam Makhachev’s reaction to Alex Volkanovski’s daughter’s joke

Reigning UFC lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev, didn’t let Alexander Volkanovski’s story about how his daughter joked about him mentioning defeat in a confrontation with the Russian fighter go unchallenged.

Earlier, the Australian relayed a conversation with his daughter who asked him what he would do if someone broke into their home.

“I replied, ‘No one’s going to break in, it’s fine – I’m here and I’m a world champion. Don’t worry – I’ll deal with it,’ and she says, ‘What if it’s Islam Makhachev?”,” Wolkanowski recounted.

A few days later, Volkanovski reported that his former rival had sent his daughters gifts and a personal message.

“I guess Islam was uncomfortable – he sent the girls dolls and texted me, ‘just tell them I never come to the house uninvited,'” the former UFC champion said in a video posted on social media. “Obviously, he’s a good man. Islam, I appreciate that. I appreciate it, it means a lot to me, and I’m sure the girls will appreciate it.”

Alexander Volkanovski made two unsuccessful forays into the lightweight division last year, losing to Islam Makhachev by unanimous decision and then by knockout, and last weekend the Australian lost his UFC featherweight championship belt to Elijah Topuria by second-round knockout.
