The current UFC lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev, summed up the last year, which was the most successful in his professional career.
“The results of 2022 in short – it was an amazing year for my professional career,” the Russian fighter wrote on the social network.
Last year, 31-year-old Islam Makhachev fought two fights, defeating Bobby Green in the first round and finishing former division champion Charles Oliveira via arm triangle choke in the second round for the vacant UFC lightweight championship. The victory over the Brazilian allowed him to take the third place in the ranking of the best fighters of the organization, regardless of weight, and the unexpected defeat of Israel Adesanya raised the Russian to the second position in the UFC P4P list.
Islam Makhachev will fight his next fight on February 11 at UFC 284 in Perth against Australian Alexander Volkanovski, who holds the UFC featherweight title and is the best fighter in the strongest league in the world.
The day before, representatives of the organization presented the official poster of the Australian numbered event.
