Islam Makhachev reacted to the Almeida and Lewis fight

Reigning UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev, like many fans, was left underwhelmed by the heavyweight bout between Jailton Almeida and Derrick Lewis that headlined UFC Fight Night 231 in Sao Paulo.

“When you’ve never trained grappling,” the Russian wrote on social media. “Give him a pillow.”

The heavyweight fight went the full distance, at the end of five rounds of which the judges gave the victory by unanimous decision with scores of 50-45 and 50-44 twice to the Brazilian, who controlled his opponent in the parterre for most of the fight.

Despite the fact that the American spent a total of no more than a minute on the feet in each of the rounds, Jailton Almeida, who had previously won five fights early in the UFC, was unable to not only finish “The Black Beast” but also put him in a dangerous situation.

Prior to the Lewis fight, the Brazilian grappler was projected to have a big future in the division and was put on the same level as Sergey Pavlovich and Tom Aspinall, who will play for the interim UFC heavyweight championship belt in a week’s time.
