Islam Makhachev praised Khabib Nurmagomedov’s current form

Reigning UFC lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev, spoke about the current physical shape of his friend and sparring partner Khabib Nurmagomedov three and a half years after the end of his professional career.

“I think Khabib is happy, but he misses the fights, the fight camp,” MMAJunkie quoted the Russian as saying. “That’s why he keeps joining us. He loves to train, and he keeps training every day.”

“He trains every day even if he is not with us. He has a house in the village and he has a house in the city. In both houses he has a sauna, a very nice gym and a swimming pool. This guy trains every day, no matter where he is.”

According to Makhachev, his comrade now weighs more than 90 kilograms, which makes it much more difficult to work with him as a sparring partner.

“It’s no secret that Khabib has the worst style for anyone. If he moves you down, he takes all your energy, all your power, because he’s very heavy when he’s on top. I don’t have those skills because when I’m on top, I’m looking to do something, to hold a choke or a painful choke, but this guy has crazy control, he just holds you down. Now he’s also got crazy strength because he’s big. He’s holding you and saying, ‘Hey, stop lying down – get up!'”

Islam Makhachev is currently completing preparations for his title defense against American Dustin Porier, who he will face on June 1 at UFC 302 in Newark.
