Islam Makhachev named the best wrestler in the world

Two-time Olympic champion and five-time world champion in freestyle wrestling, Abdulrashid Sadulaev, is the best wrestler in the world, regardless of weight category, the reigning UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev is sure.

“This is Sadulaev, of course,” the Russian fighter said in an interview with Daniel Cormier. “He only needs to perform at the Olympics, because there are simply no rivals for him. Kyle Snyder? Forget about him bro. He will lose to him a thousand times – this is an easy match for Sadulaev.”

27-year-old Abdulrashid Sadulaev is the champion of the Olympic Games in freestyle wrestling in 2016 and 2020 in weight up to 86 and up to 97 kg, respectively, and the Russian won the last gold of the World Championship in 2021 in Oslo.

Islam Makhachev, 31, plans to make another title defense on October 21 at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi, and his opponent is likely to be former division champion Charles Oliveira, who dealt with Benil Dariush in a challenger fight.
