Islam Makhachev and Justin Gaethje’s manager has chosen sides

The manager of Islam Makhachev and Justin Gaethje, Ali Abdelaziz, has finally decided who he will support in a potential fight between his charges.

“Makhachev vs. Gaethje – this fight should be organized next,” Abdelaziz wrote on social media. “Justin, you’ll never be the same after you fight him – remember that.”

Reigning UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev last stepped into the octagon two months ago at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi, knocking out Alexander Volkanovski in the first round, while Justin Gaethje became one of the main title candidates this July, knocking out Dustin Porier in a challenger’s bout.

However, the Russian’s most likely opponent remains Brazilian Charles Oliveira, who pulled out of his rematch with the champion in October after suffering a serious dissection in training.

At the same time Makhachev himself does not lose hope to get a fight with the British Leon Edwards, who holds the UFC welterweight title.
