The only (so far?) in the history of boxing the absolute champion of cruiserweight and heavyweight, the legendary American Evander Holyfield believes that the former owner of the WBA Super, IBF and WBO belts, British heavyweight Anthony Joshua (24-3, 22 KOs) complicates everything in the ring too much.
According to him
words, sometimes it’s better to lean not on technique, but on striking power: “Joshua is a good fighter. But if you’re throwing a small amount of punches, it’s very difficult to maximize your advantage in anthropometry. Anthony is a real big guy. He needs to box more from the jab. Think long-term light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson. He had a great jab. And that’s exactly what he got away with. As soon as he hit the opponent with a jab, he immediately threw in pursuit of a straight line. Joshua can do the same.”
Joshua’s liability is two defeats in a row to the Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk – it was to him that he lost all his belts, he failed to take away in revenge.
Holyfield went on to say, “That doesn’t mean Joshua can’t box. But he needs to act more aggressively, to lean more on superiority in anthropometry and power. Of course, this tactic will not work for everyone. After all, sooner or later he will meet with an even larger fighter, whom he will not be able to crush with mass and size. You have to play your game. You can’t let your opponent outsmart you.”
The other day, Joshua’s manager said: “The fight with Fury will definitely take place. I can prove it.” He, by the way, does not mind: “I have three more fights left in Britain.”
