Boxing legend and head of the promotion company Golden Boy Promotions Oscar De La Hoya is very pleased with the decision of the WBC to appoint a qualifying fight in the super middleweight (up to 76.2 kg) between former world champions from the USA David Benavidez (26-0, 23 KOs) and Caleb Plant (22-1, 13 KOs).
Oscar is in for a great show, but at the same time, he has no doubts about the winner.
“I love this fight,” De La Hoya said. “Great, great fight. Styles make fights. I’m a big fan of Benavidez and Plant has great style. But I will believe in this fight only when I see them in the ring.”
“Based on what Canelo did to Plant and my belief that Benavidez is probably the biggest force in the super middleweight division and the fact that David has a cutthroat style and is young, I think Plant it will be a tactical fight. He has great style, but in the end, I think Benavidez will be able to unwind him. Youth, power and strength will win this fight. If Canelo knocked him (Plant) out, then Benavides will simply destroy him.
Earlier, De La Hoya’s British colleague Eddie Hearn revealed what Benavidez had to do to get the fight with Canelo.
