Former UFC middleweight title challenger Jared Cannonier wants Hamzat Chimaev as his next opponent, and former division champion Michael Bisping thinks the fight is a great idea.
“I’d love to see Hamzat against Jared Cannonier, because if he can’t move him and he can’t solve his cardio problem, then he’s in big trouble,” said the Brit in a video posted on his Youtube channel. “But who knows – maybe there’s a reason why he’s running out of gas so abruptly? Maybe it’s because he doesn’t save his energy and doesn’t keep the pace. He goes straight ahead and fights.”
“When you’re trying to move someone down, that’s the most cardio-loading element in mixed martial arts. Trying to wrestle someone, trying to grab another grown man and move him down, even using technique – it takes a lot of energy. I can tell you from my own experience – it’s very tiring, especially if you’re facing a world-class opponent who knows how to stop your kickdowns”
“Jared Cannonier, in my humble opinion, is the perfect opponent for Hamzat Chimaev. There’s also Sean Strickland, who Hamzat spent some time in the gym with, and I’d love to see that, but Chimaev-Cannonier would be just fine.”
Jared Cannonier and Hamzat Chimaev currently have no scheduled bouts, but the Chechen fighter recently made it clear that he has reached an agreement with the management of the world’s strongest league about their next fight, which could take place on April 13 at UFC 300 in Las Vegas.
