British ex-world super middleweight champion Carl Froch detailed his feelings when he learned he would be inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
Recall that Froch excelled in the category “Contemporaries” along with Timothy Bradley and Rafael Marquez. The full list of new members was announced on December 7th.
“I was taking my girls to school and on my way home, when suddenly my phone rang and an American number flashed on the screen,” says Carl. “I thought it was some kind of scam.” The guy from America on the phone asked: “Is this Carl?” I said, “Yes, it’s Carl. What would you like?” He introduced himself as a Hall of Famer in Canastota.”
“I knew I was on the shortlist of candidates. “Did I get there?” I asked and began to feel dizzy with excitement. And he says that in 2023 I will be inducted into the Hall of Fame. I had to stop. I didn’t start yelling or anything, but the signal started dropping and I couldn’t let the call drop. So I pulled over and we had a good conversation.”
“It was just amazing,” Froch admits. “To know that I will be inducted into the Hall of Fame along with some of the legends of the sport, generations of world-class fighters. A plaster cast will be made of my arm and placed right there on the wall. I don’t need to talk about (the fight at) Wembley Stadium anymore. Now I’m in the Hall of Fame.”
In November, Froch was given a list of fighters. He came up with one name – and the veteran was kicked.
