Haney should fight Lomachenko, not Kambosos – Stevenson

Olympic medalist, conqueror of two weight divisions and current unified world champion American Shakur Stevenson (18-0, 9 KOs) is dissatisfied with compatriot Devin Haney (28-0, 15 KOs). In June, in Australia, he beat local champion George Kambosos Jr. (20-1, 10 KOs) and became the owner of all division belts, but is contractually obliged to fight a rematch with the loser.

Stephenson strongly opposed second fight between them: “Sooner or later I will meet Devin in the ring. And it will be a great fight. In the meantime, I heard that Vasily Lomachenko wants to return the lost. And I strongly hope that Haney’s team will find some clause in the contract that will avoid a rematch with Kambosos. After all, no one needs a second fight, everything is clear there. Does Haney have a boring style? No I do not agree. I got a buzz from his performance, although it was all “one gate”. That’s why I don’t want to see a rematch. Nothing will change”.

According to Stevenson, “Kambosos has nothing to do the second fight in any other way. He always fights the same way. He was exactly the same against Teofimo Lopez. But what worked with Lopez didn’t work with Haney. So what’s the point of watching another 12 rounds of total domination of one fighter over another? Although… Maybe Haney will give him a rematch. I think Devin should now fight not with Kambosos, but with Lomachenko. You have to give Haney credit. He beat Kambosos, who beat Lopez, who beat Lomachenko. Now he is the boss of the division.”

A little earlier, promoter Eddie Hearn suggested that Lomachenko would fight whoever won the Haney-Kambosos rematch. The Top Rank boss has no doubts that the Ukrainian will agree to fight Devin. In the meantime, we have prepared for you the top 16 options for October for Lomachenko.
