Haney: I hope to fight Lomachenko instead of rematch with Kambosos

In early June in Australia, American Devin Haney (28-0, 15 KOs) took the title of absolute lightweight champion from local fighter George Kambosos Jr. (20-1, 10 KOs), but was forced to fight a rematch at the same place – such clause was written into the contract.

Fans and experts are not happy with the prospect of seeing a re-fight between these fighters, since Haney’s advantage was still very tangible. TV channel browser ESPN Mark Kriegel asked Haney about a possible fight with former division leader Ukrainian Vasily Lomachenko (16-2, 11 KOs).

“This is one of those fights that we would really like to do. I believe that sooner or later it will take place, ”the champion replies.

The American would like to fight Lomachenko, but he remembers that he is now defending his native country from the Russian invasion as part of the Ukrainian territorial defense forces: “Lomachenko instead of revenge with Kambosos? How realistic is this? To be honest, we don’t know. Moreover, we are all aware of the situation in which the Ukrainian is now. I pray that everything goes well with him. Let’s see how real it is.”

About the rest of the division’s top options:

Gervonta Davis: Before the fight with Kambosos, he declared his readiness to reach the winner. But since then, nothing has been heard from him. I don’t know what’s wrong… Maybe he changed his mind…

Ryan Garcia: Now this option does not interest me. I want to fight for the legacy. And Garcia only calls the tops, but does not fight with them …

Shakur Stevenson: I think in the future this is a very real option. But you need to understand how much time I have left in this weight. I’m still here with amateurs. Somewhere 6-7 years already. Need to discuss with the team. You need to understand which options are real and which are not.

About the most desired fights at 61.2 kg: Only two fights. This is Loma and “Tank” Davis. These are the options I’m interested in. And if the rematch with Kambosos does not take place, then I would like to do fights with Loma and Tank.

In the meantime, the promoter of the Australian spoke about whether Kambosos would go for a rematch with Haney. It became known what these two talked about in the locker room after the fight.
