Giga Chikaze has been eliminated from the UFC 296 tournament

The UFC’s No. 8 ranked welterweight division, Giga Chikaze, has suffered an injury and has pulled out of the UFC 296 event, which was scheduled to face sixth-ranked Josh Emmett.

“D***o happens! Tore my groin muscle. I’ll be back soon!”, – the Georgian fighter wrote in the social network, publishing the corresponding video.

It is not yet known if Emmett will remain on the event’s card, but the American has already asked potential opponents if anyone would be willing to take a fight with him on less than two weeks notice.

This August, Giga Chikadze put his career back on track with a unanimous decision win over Alex Caceres. Prior to that, the 35-year-old Georgian fighter suffered his first loss under the UFC banner, losing a five-round unanimous decision to Kelvin Kattar and snapping a seven-fight win streak in the organization.

Josh Emmett, 38, has lost two fights in a row, suffering an early defeat in his interim title fight with Yair Rodriguez and losing by unanimous decision to Elijah Topuria. Prior to his fight with Rodriguez, the American had won five fights in a row, most recently defeating Kelvin Kattar by split decision.

Recall that the UFC 296 tournament will take place on December 16 in Las Vegas, and its main event will be a welterweight title fight between Leon Edwards and Colby Covington.
