WBA and IBF middleweight world champion (up to 72.6 kg) Kazakhstani Gennady Golovkin (42-1-1, 37 KOs) is not going to stay in boxing and admits that he will soon hang his gloves on a nail. In April 2023, the future member of the Hall of Fame will turn 41 years old.

Recall that on September 17, Gennady is scheduled for the third fight against the Mexican Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (57-2-2, 39 KOs).

“One way or another, soon I will end my career. With or without his (Alvarez’s) help. Let’s face it: I’m already 40 years old, and retirement is close,” Golovkin said in an interview with
The Sun.

Silver medalist of the Olympic Games-2004, Kazakhstani has been playing professionally since 2006. At the same time, since 2010, almost all Golovkin’s fights have been title fights – the only exception was the fight against Steve Rolls in 2019.

One of the former champions believes that Golovkin has a chance to beat Canelo, but only one. And the promoter explains why Alvarez should be happy that Golovkin will fight him again.
