WBC heavyweight champion British Tyson Fury (32-0-1, 23 KOs) offered his services to compatriot Anthony Joshua (24-2, 22 KOs) – he was ready to help prepare for a rematch with Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk (19-0, 13 KOs) ), and not in the status of a sparring partner, but a coach.
The words of a talkative big man
commented the new coach Joshua American Robert Garcia: “Fury is a great athlete, but I’m not sure that he ever coached anyone. Remember, not so long ago, Floyd Mayweather was also going to devote himself to coaching. But at least I definitely don’t see him as a coach. It is possible that they see from the outside what needs to be worked on and sincerely believe that they will be able to improve everything. But in fact, it is far from being so easy, it is hard work that requires a lot of time and dedication. Especially if you need to train an eminent fighter who has achieved a lot in boxing. I’m not even sure that they could have done the entire training camp from start to finish.”
In September last year, Joshua lost to Usyk by decision, lost the WBA Super, IBF, WBO titles. The loser activated the revenge clause prescribed in the contract, fired mentor Rob McCracken, with whom he had collaborated since his amateur performances for the UK national team. The second fight will take place in August in Saudi Arabia.
Garcia will be assisted in working with Joshua by Angel Fernandez. He is already talking about revenge with might and main: “We are preparing for everything. If you need to fight in infighting, Joshua will be good in infighting. If you have to box from a long distance, Joshua will be good from a long distance. We do not have to work aggressively and push Usyk, because Joshua has an advantage in anthropometry, an excellent jab, cool twos. If you do everything right, you can win anyway.”
Garcia agrees: “Yes, we are preparing several different options and not only that. If Anthony does everything right, then I have no doubt that he will become a three-time world champion. We don’t want to take risks and rely on only one option, because sometimes you need to reorganize during the battle. And if we need to change the plan for the fight, then we will be ready for this.
Meanwhile, British legend believes Joshua needs a brain transplant to defeat Usyk. And local slugger veteran Derek Chisora believes that it would be better for Anthony to lose to the Ukrainian by knockout.
