Promoter Bob Arum (Top Rank) was surprised when he heard an ultimatum from his colleague Alexander Krasyuk (K2 Promotions). He recently announced that the fight for the title of absolute heavyweight champion between Briton Tyson Fury (33-0-1, 24 KOs) and Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk (20-0, 13 KOs) will take place before March 4 or will never take place.
Answer Aruma: “To be honest, I don’t know where he pulled the date March 4 from. I will only say one thing. Both fighters agreed to fight without any intermediate fights. And this is good. But the date and venue of the fight has not yet been decided – we are working on these issues. I think everything will become clear in the coming days.”
Arum recalled that he “has been in contact with[Fury’s promoters]Frank and George Warren for a long time. We are in touch daily. Similarly, I am constantly in touch with Usyk’s manager, Egis Klimas. I said before and I will repeat that Alexander is my friend. Therefore, I am sure that the fight will take place, and soon. But there is no date yet – this still needs to be worked on. ”
Meanwhile, Fury was suddenly talking about a rematch, and his promoter admitted that the PPV price of the fight with Usyk would be higher than usual. The other day, ex-world champion Johnny Nelson explained why Fury does not need “mind games” against Usyk.
