Promoter of the WBC heavyweight title holder (over 101.6 kg) from Britain Tyson Fury (32-0-1, 23 KOs) Frank Warren (Queensberry Promotions)
commented victory and winning the title of “interim” WBO champion of another heavyweight from his roster Briton Joe Joyce (15-0, 14 KOs) over the former champion from New Zealand Joseph Parker (30-3, 21 KOs).
The functionary also spoke about negotiations with the team of the former unified champion from Britain Anthony Joshua (24-3, 22 KOs) regarding the December fight against Fury.
Mustache to be afraid or… – Joyce-Parker fight report from vRINGe
— Were you surprised by Joyce’s holder? We know he has a granite chin, but the way he absorbs the blows and marches forward like they mean nothing. And also the finish is the icing on the cake.
— He went up in class tonight. He only had 14 fights and fought the former champion on a streak of, I think, 6 or 7 wins. He fought for the title before, he was never stopped, so it was a big step up for Joyce. And there was the unknown. I thought he would win, but there were some things I was worried about – can he do it, does he have what is needed? He showed you that, dominated the fight at times. His jab was great. Poor Joseph Parker was beaten before he was stopped. It was a world class finish.
– I heard voices in the ringside that Joe Joyce is the only person who can beat Tyson Fury. You are the promoter of both fighters, it must be nice to hear such words? You have potentially two of the best heavyweights on the planet. You have the best in Tyson Fury, but Joe Joyce is there now too.
“Of course he’s there. Queensberry is where the good heavyweight action is now. Joe is now the interim champion, Tyson is now the world’s number one heavyweight and also the WBC champion, and then there’s Daniel Dubois, the WBA champion. All roads lead to Queensberry.
Joe is in a tough position right now. He’s up for a fight with Usyk, which he’s chasing, but you need to keep him active. In the meantime, which fight would interest you as Joyce’s promoter?
– A fight that can be sold. You need to keep it active, it will not remain without activity. We will discuss this with his management and make a decision.
- “Usyk, I’m coming for you!” Joe Joyce on victory over Parker and future fights
– According to the negotiations between Fury and Joshua, Tyson put forward an ultimatum – Monday, or the fight will not take place. I guess you have thoughts on this because the fight was so close and it’s a pity that such a small time gap is given to Joshua’s answer.
– Not small. He got the contract a week ago. Not a small gap at all.
“From your point of view, if you don’t get an answer, then the fight is over?”
We have a meeting on Monday and we’ll see what happens next.
Are you still positive about the idea of this fight?
We wouldn’t have a meeting on Monday. The only one who can stop this fight is Anthony Joshua. He has excellent conditions, he has 40% of the prize pool. He wanted to fight in December, so for him we moved the date from early November to December. The things that his team was worried about, like the undercard budget, we worked it out together. We will conclude contracts with TV broadcasters jointly. Therefore, we coordinate everything. The only reason this fight won’t happen is because of Anthony Joshua because he won’t give it a go.
There are rumors about a fight between Daniel Dubois and Dillian Whyte. This fight could potentially take place before the end of the year, or are there other opponents for Daniel Dubois?
– We coordinate his duel. I hope Daniel fights in November.
