Former UFC champion questioned the status of Islam Makhachev

Former UFC lightweight titleholder Rafael Dos Anjos is convinced that the division’s current champion, Islam Makhachev, is undeservedly ranked as the organization’s top fighter regardless of weight class.

“Jon Jones: 13 title defenses, double champion, undefeated – second place in the P4P rankings. Islam Makhachev: 2 title defenses against a featherweight champion, one knockout loss – first place in the P4P rankings. Please give me a good reason to take seriously who makes these rankings,” the Brazilian wrote in the social network.

Having finished Charles Oliveira in a fight for the vacant championship belt in October 2022, Islam Makhachev defended the title twice last year, winning a unanimous decision over Alexander Volkanovski before knocking out the Australian in a rematch.

According to the UFC’s plan, the Russian will return to the octagon this summer, and his next opponent will be the winner of the challenger fight between Charles Oliveira and Arman Tsarukyan, who will share the octagon on April 13 at UFC 300 in Las Vegas.
