Former UFC bantamweight champion, Jamal Hill, who was arrested a week ago for assaulting his older brother, has issued his first statement since his arrest.
“There have been a lot of reports about the situation that happened when I came home to Michigan for the holidays,” the American said in a video posted on his YouTube channel. “I’ll just say this – the case is open at this point. I’ve been advised not to talk about it, and I know that’s the right thing to do.”
“I can’t wait for the moment when the truth is announced in court. I look forward to that day. People who know me and my character and truly support me are taking their time to come to a conclusion and sticking to it as well. That’s all I can say on the matter.”
Last Monday, Jamal Hill was arrested by Michigan police, and released hours after prosecutors formally charged him with aggravated domestic violence.
At the same time, the management of the American fighter released a statement according to which Hill considers himself innocent and is ready to prove it in court. The first hearing in the case will be held on January 22 next year.
Earlier this year, Jamal Hill won the vacant UFC flyweight championship belt by defeating Glover Teixeira by unanimous decision, but in July, the 32-year-old American was forced to vacate the title after tearing his Achilles tendon while playing basketball.
