Former two-time UFC flyweight champion Carla Esparza is expecting a baby and will return to the octagon in less than a year.
The 35-year-old American woman announced this on a social network by posting a photo with her husband.
“So for the last 14 weeks we have kept a little secret,” Esparza wrote. “We are expecting a baby in September. Looking forward to the next chapter and hope to be back closer to mid 2024.”
Last May, Carla Esparza took the championship belt away from Rose Namajunas by a five-round split decision over her compatriot, but lost the title six months later, losing to Chinese Weili Zhang by rear naked choke in the second round.
At the moment, Carla Esparza continues to occupy the first line in the ranking of the first flyweight division of the UFC.
