Former owner of Fight Nights Ziyavudin Magomedov sentenced to 19 years

Russian businessman Ziyavudin Magomedov, who was the co-founder of the Eagles MMA fight club and co-owner of the Fight Nights Global promotion, was sentenced to 19 years in prison for creating a criminal community and embezzling budget funds.

His older brother, former member of the Federation Council Magomed Magomedov, was sentenced to 18 years.

The verdict for the brothers, as well as four other defendants in the case, was passed by the Meshchansky Court of Moscow. The prosecution requested that Ziyavudin Magomedov and Magomed Magomedov be sentenced to 24 and 21 years of strict regime respectively.

According to investigators, the criminal group stole 11 billion rubles of budget funds. The court satisfied civil claims in the amount of 3.6 billion rubles, ruling to recover them from the defendants from the seized property, and also ordered the Magomedov brothers to pay fines of 2.5 million rubles each.

Recall that the Magomedov brothers were arrested in March 2018, but they never admitted their guilt. At the same time, Ziyavudin Magomedov called the criminal case “a symbiosis of lies and absurdity.”

Fight Nights Global changed ownership in 2020 and rebranded at the same time, changing its name to AMC Fight Nights.
