Fedor Emelianenko turned to Peter Yan

Legendary Russian heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko has commented on the information that his compatriot, former UFC lightweight champion Peter Yan, plans to return to the octagon after a one-year hiatus.

The words of “The Last Emperor” are quoted by the press service of the Archangel Michael club.

“Peter Yan initially showed himself as a fighter at the World Amateur Championship in the MMA Union, where I saw him,” Emelianenko said. ‘Then he became a silver medalist in Russia, and from that moment I have been following his career. God grant Peter that the troubles he had, the trials he had in his career, will pass, and we are waiting for new victories from him!”

Last March, Petr Yan suffered his third straight defeat, losing a five-round unanimous decision to Merab Dvalishvili, and the 30-year-old Russian will next fight on March 9 at UFC 299 in Miami against China’s Song Yadong.

Fedor Emelianenko, 47, made an unsuccessful attempt to take the Bellator heavyweight title from Ryan Bader last February, losing to the American by technical knockout in the first round before announcing the end of his professional career.
