Colleagues from ESPN
took advantage of the traditional lull in the world of boxing in July and summed up the results of the first half of the year – 2022.

We may not agree with all the winners and contenders (some even noted in the notes), but we are delighted with their choice in the “event of the year” nomination. We’re sure you’ll love the choice too. ESPN.

Fight of the year: Lee Wood – Michael Conlan (challenger: Jermell Charlo – Brian Castagno 2).
Note WMMAA: I would also like to note the felling of Sebastian Fundora – Erickson Lubin.

Fight of the year in women’s boxing: Kathy Taylor – Amanda Serrano.

Fighter of the Year: Jesse Rodriguez (Challenger: Dmitry Bivol)
Note WMMAA: Jermell Charlo, Devin Haney and Shakur Stevenson would also be noted. Possibly also Naoya Inoue.

Women’s Boxing Fighter of the Year: Kathy Taylor.

Sensation of the year: Dmitry Bivol – UD 12 – Saul Alvarez (challenger: Hector Luis Garcia – UD 12 – Chris Colbert).
Note WMMAA: We were no less amazed by the upsets in the fights Lucas Brown – Junior Fa, Martin Bakole Ilunga – Tony Yoka, Miguel Berchelt – Jeremiah Nakatila and Guillermo Rigondeaux – Vincent Astrolabio.

Knockout of the Year: Lee Wood – Michael Conlan (Contender: Tyson Fury – Dillian Whyte)
Note WMMAA: Naoya Inoue – Nonito Donaire 2, Gervonta Davis – Rolando Romero and especially Joe Cordina – Kenichi Ogawa would also be noted.

Surprise of the year: Josh Taylor got tired in the mandatory defense with Jack Catterall and, perhaps, even lost (the judges insured him).

Event of the year: Ukrainian boxers Vitaliy and Vladimir Klitschko, Oleksandr Usyk and Vasily Lomachenko united against criminal Russian military aggression.

Lomachenko even lost the chance to fulfill his dream of fighting for all the division titles. In October, he will return to the ring, and we have prepared for him the top 16 options for a comeback.
