Against the background of the defeat of Canelo Alvarez (57-2-2, 39 KOs) from Dmitry Bivol, many boxing fans remembered that this failure could well have become not the second, but the third for the star Mexican in his professional career.

In July 2014, less than a year after losing to Floyd Mayweather, Álvarez beat Cuban Erislandy Lara in a very tight 12-round split decision victory over Canelo.

Lara himself, now a 39-year-old WBA World middleweight champion with a record of 28-3-3, 16 KOs, did not stand aside.

“It’s both good and bad that people are talking about our fight[against Canelo]again. It’s good because people think of me and know what kind of fight I had with Canelo and what kind of boxer I am. Bivol is very intelligent, with an amateur pedigree. He confused Canelo and easily won the fight, ”the Cuban stated.

“You know our fight with Canelo was in Vegas and there are a lot of Mexicans there. So many of them told me that I beat Canelo, but they brazenly stole the victory from me,” Erislandi regrets again. “But we must move forward, after all, seven years have already passed. We’ll see, maybe the best is yet to come.”

This Saturday Lara will defend her title against mustachioed Irishman Gary O’Sullivan.
