Elijah Topuria has chosen his next opponent

The new UFC featherweight champion, Elijah Topuria, has announced who he wants as his next opponent.

According to the Spanish-Georgian fighter, he’s ready to go on a title defense against current UFC flyweight champion Sean O’Malley, who previously promised to knock him out.

“Me vs. Sugarcreek. Who wants to see this?”, Topuria wrote on social media.

On Feb. 17 at UFC 298 in Anaheim, Elijah Topuria knocked out Alexander Volkanovski in the second round, taking the championship belt from the Australian, and Sean O’Malley said after the fight that he was ready to move up to featherweight for a second title.

At the same time, the American was genuinely surprised that fans want to see not his confrontation with Topuria, but a fight against Marab Dvalishvili, who received the status of official challenger.

“I don’t know if people really want me to fight Merab, or if they just hate my confidence in going out there and knocking out Ilia. But I made a decision and sent Elijah a message,” O’Malley said at the time.

However, before he can plan a superfight, Sean O’Malley must successfully defend his championship belt against Ecuador’s Marlon Vera, who headlines UFC 299 in Miami on May 9, while Elijah Topuria recently said he plans to make his first title defense this October or November at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium in Madrid.
